Appointed in April 2020 by the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Industrial Strategy

Margaret had a 28 year career with KPMG LLP. She was a partner specialising in taxation and infrastructure investment for 16 years. She had a leading role in building the firm’s $1bn pa. global infrastructure practice. She was responsible for leading UK and international tax due diligence and tax structuring services on major M&A transactions and public private partnerships. She founded KPMG’s global Sovereign Wealth, Pension and Infrastructure Funds group and facilitated its discussions with OECD and country tax authorities. She also held senior UK management roles, responsible for HR and partner development, performance and engagement.

Margaret's other directorships include - non-executive director of VH Global Sustainable Energy Opportunities Fund plc and Chair of its Audit Committee.; non-executive director of AVI Japan Opportunity Trust plc and Chair of its Remuneration and Nomination Committee. She is a member of The Infrastructure Forum Advisory Committee.

Margaret was a non-executive board member and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Department for Exiting the European Union from 2017 until its closure in 2020. She was also a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee of The London School of Architecture until 2020.

She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, qualified in 1988. She has an MA (hons) in History from Edinburgh University and post-graduate qualification in Accountancy and Finance from Heriot Watt University.
