Appointed in August 2022 by the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Chris is an actuary with over 35 years of experience in investing assets to meet long-term liabilities.

As well as the Nuclear Liabilities Fund, he chairs the Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, a Leeds-based asset management company specialising in local authority pension funds, and chairs the Investment Committee of Nest, a government-sponsored pension scheme with 11 million members. He also sits on the Investment Committee of the Scott Trust, which backs the Guardian and Observer newspapers, and chairs a start-up company, the Pension SuperFund.

Chris is a former Chair of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association and in 2012 was appointed by BEIS as an advisor to Professor John Kay for his review of short-termism in the UK stock market. For almost 20 years, Chris led Railpen, the £30 billion industry-wide pension scheme for the UK rail industry.
